About Us

The original snowreports.co.nz kicked off for the 2001 season and was started by Peter Foote of Mount Dobson. All credit to Peter for having the vision to create a really nice, simple, easy to use site. The site ran in the same format and with the same design for 5 years, which in the web world is around 1000 years. Amazingly it still looked pretty good and worked well.

However in 2006 things had moved on. Technologies changed, the way of accessing information changed and it was simply time to revamp the site. Peter passed the control of the site to Cabbage Tree Creative to take forward in the coming years. Our goal is to retain the spirit of the site and still keep it free, but to do this we have had to enrich it a little with some advertising to make the little beggar pay its way. We think it’s a small price to pay and if the ads bug the heck out of you, well, we challenge you to find a more "ad free" snow site.

So what’s the story now then?
Well, not much of a story. Cabbage Tree is one of New Zealand’s leading designers of websites, specialising in tourism. Thus, snow reports is an ideal place for us to trial new technologies. So yes, consider yourself a guinea pig, and for your sake and ours we hope the experiments go well! Legal note – we’re not responsible for deaths, medical misadventure, and certainly not any addictions that you develop such as snow fever-itis!

We’ve got some simple goals which pretty much are:

• A cool portal for New Zealand skiing
• A simple and easily accessible snow reporting system
• Free access for users and snow areas
• As little advertising as possible to help support the future and ongoing development of the site
• To always be seeking new ideas that help our users

So yep, if you got great ideas then drop us a line – we’d love to hear them. In the meantime, enjoy the site and if you are as passionate about skiing and boarding as we are, feel free to contribute to our blog.
