With its mix of commercial and club fields, plus world-class heli-skiing, Canterbury offers skiers and boarders a veritable smorgasbord of winter options. Located at the foot of the Southern Alps, Mt Hutt is renown for its long season, fabulous views, and some of the most varied terrain in the South Island. It's proximity to Christchurch and Methven makes Mt Hutt ideal for a day trip or a long skiing holiday.
For something a little different, nearby Helipark offers 380ha of free-riding backcountry terrain accessed only by a helicopter.
Numerous other smaller areas such as the popular Porters provide a more laid back, genuine Kiwi ski experience, all just a little over an hours drive from Christchurch. Along the Craigieburn range fields such as Mt Cheeseman, Mt Olympus, and Craigieburn Valley provide a welcoming atmosphere and week-long activities. More Canterbury skiing information
